Partnership grows between UCLH and Oncology Imaging Systems

OIS are pleased to announce that partnership between themselves and the new UCLH Radiotherapy Centre is moving from strength to strength.
Just before Christmas the UCLH placed an order for 6 breast boards, for the new department. This order was placed after an extensive audit of all boards on the market. The carbon fibre board is being customised to meet the specifications of the department so that patient care and treatment can be maximised.

Following the install of the new GE Lightspeed CT scanner into the department in January this year, OIS installed the bridge version of the LAP Dorado laser positioning device.
This device allows for more accurate patient positioning in the location and treatment of tumours. The bridge version was chosen to maximise the room space, whilst giving the maximum amount of movement for the side and sagittal lasers. The system connects to the GE Advantage Virtual Simulation software.

In association with this set up, the UCLH also became the first department in the UK to fit a Qfix carbon fibre CT couch top to the scanner. This couch top is part of a bigger project for OIS as the centre will be fitted throughout with the new ‘kVue’ IGRT treatment table system.

The modular ‘kVue’ couch is a new concept to the UK. Fitted to a standard couch pedestal are 2 moveable beams, on top of which is then fitted a couch top to suit the desired treatment. This can be a standard top, a top designed for head and neck IMRT, a breast top, etc. The 2 ‘beams’ move independent of each other and can therefore be moved out of any radiation beam direction,
yet can retain the couch rigidity needed for treatment and patient support.

This picture shows the supporting ‘beams’ which can moved independently of each other in order to facilitate the chosen treatment

The system is made entirely of carbon fibre with no additional metal, is fully indexed, and has a surface which has a property of low electron generation.
Sarah Hynd head of Radiotherapy Services said “ The Department are delighted to work with OIS in taking this exciting and innovative project forward “
