The opportunity has arisen for two radiographers to gain experience at the Suffolk Oncology Centre in Ipswich.
Ipswich Hospital was one of the first radiotherapy centres in the UK to routinely offer IMRT to all patients where it is clinically appropriate. We have three Varian linear Accelerators two with On board Imaging and respiratory gating. Daily localisation using kV-kV planar imaging is routine for a number of treatment sites. We aim to commence treatments using the Varian RapidArc system for intensity modulated arc therapy early 2010.
This is complimented by full mould room facilities, an Acuity Simulator, Eclipse planning system and Aria software, and we will be commissioning a new CT Simulator early 2010. Our new superficial unit treated the first patient in December 09.
The department is actively involved in research and are investigating 2D v 3D imaging for daily localisation and adaptive radiotherapy. We are soon to be implementing stereotactic radiotherapy with respiratory gating for radical lung treatments and we are currently recruiting to a number of national radiotherapy trials.
The department is accredited to ISO 9001:2000.
You will work in all areas of the Radiotherapy department, and depending on experience will participate in the training of student radiographers and the on-call rota.
You should be confident in the use of computer technology, and posses excellent written and oral communication skills.
