The Radiotherapy Departments at the Mater Private Hospital, Dublin and Limerick

The satellite Radiotherapy department of the Mater Private Hospital opened in October 2005 at Limerick Regional Hospital.

The department is under the auspices of the Mater Private Hospital in Dublin with a computer link between both radiotherapy departments. The presence of highly skilled, dedicated staff is central to our ethos and we are committed to continuous development in all our specialties.

In the department at the Mater Private Hospital, Dublin we currently have a Siemens Primus unit and a Varian unit with OBI and Cone Beam as well as a regular simulator. We are currently carrying out IGRT and IMRT on the majority of our prostate patients with our prostate patients having fiducial gold markers in place.

There are currently 14 Radiographers working at the Mater Private in Dublin.

The Mater Private is the only site in Ireland using these fiducial markers for prostate patients. OBI and cone beam are also being used regularly as required.

There are often exciting and excellent opportunities to be involved at the Mater Private and in Limerick, which for a Radiotherapy centre for Ireland is a new concept, giving the highest quality treatment in a small department within easy local access while having the benefit of a larger, more established department‘s expertise on call if required.

Under the auspice of the Mater Private the same standards and quality of treatment and care apply and the same hospital ethos will also prevail.

Limerick has a large Oncology department, which is situated adjacent to the Radiotherapy department, and there will be close links within the hospital providing both modalities as required.

The Limerick department consists of:
2 Varian Treatment units, one OBI and one conventional.
Varis Administration system.
Siemens CT Simulator
Exomio/Prosoma Virtual Simulator.
Mould Room.
Physics Planning department using Eclipse Planning System.
11 Radiographers
