A selection of last month’s Radiotherapy news in the paper based media

1. Walking tall, the 6-year-old girl whose cancer was cured in three hours

Diagnosed with bone cancer, Darya Egorova faced the very real threat of having a leg amputated.

Less than a year later though, the six-year-old is back on her feet and free of the disease - thanks to a revolutionary procedure that took only three hours.

She has become the first person in Britain to have a cancerous bone removed, treated with very high doses of radiotherapy and reinserted all in the same hospital.

ArcCHECK

ArcCHECK is the world’s first true 4D detector array, the world’s first cylindrical detector array, and the world’s first electronic array designed specifically for rotational delivery verification. As Sun Nuclear enters its second year of production, there are already more than 100 installations worldwide.

3DVH – Quantitative 3D and DVH Analysis

Sun Nuclear has released its 3DVH dose verification and analysis software designed to bring clinically relevant analysis metrics to IMRT QA. Using conventional QA measurements (e.g. MapCHECK, MapCHECK 2, EPIDose or ArcCHECK) and patient data from the treatment planning system, 3DVH accurately predicts the impact on patient dose and DVH. 3DVH processes the data from a phantom-based geometry and translates to a heterogeneous patient dose-based geometry using a patent pending algorithm called "Planned Dose Perturbation" (PDPTM).
