How to get to Waterford!
Waterford is easily accessible from Dublin and Cork within two hours by car.
The regional airport in Waterford is growing and Aer Arann fly daily to and from London and Manchester. The airport is very quiet and makes flying a pleasure as is not often the case these days! Look at www.aerarann.com for more information on services and low cost fares.
Waterford is a port located about half way down Ireland’s east coast and is a busy and historical city.
The rest of Ireland is easily accessible by car for sightseeing and city breaks to Cork and Dublin.
If travelling by Sea Ferry from the UK to Rosslaire en route to Waterford, make sure that you travel due south to “Ballyhack” rather than take the main road and the long way round!
A small ferry crosses the river joining Wexford to Waterford and creates a valuable time saving shortcut while dropping you very close to the most delightful village of Dunmore East. This small town has numerous hotels, the most famous being the Candlelight Inn, a small hotel with comfortable rooms, a great “Irish” bar with fantastic local produce and seafood. Dunmore East, is a fishing port and a village that has not lost its old world charm, with thatched cottages and should not be missed.
The Passage East Car Ferry is in the
heart of the 'Sunny South East' and links the villages of Ballyhack in Co
Wexford and Passage East in Co Waterford.
Waterford City is deep in history and heritage, where Reginald's Tower, built in 1003, is now a museum. A great source of helpful information and advice can be found at the tourist Information Office on the Quay in Waterford.
Just 10km from Waterford is Ireland's premier seaside resort 'Tramore' with a
5km beach. Swimming can be enjoyed in the sea!
On
the Wexford side of the estuary you will find Hook Head, which is the oldest
working lighthouse in Europe. Nearby are many quiet coves and sandy beaches.
Kilmore Quay has a maritime museum on the lightship 'Guillemot'. A boat trip to
the Saltee Islands can be arranged here.
The John F. Kennedy Park covers 500 acres. There are many castles and ruins which can be visited, Slade Castle, Dunrody abbey and Tintern abbey are just a few. The Irish Heritage Park is well worth a visit as is Johnstown Castle garden and agricultural museum.
River Cruises are available from Waterford and New Ross. Some of the country's finest golf courses are in the South East. These are just a few suggestions.
